Thank you for this. I have been left trying to scrape my jaw off the floor over Vital Farms. I’ll buy those eggs when the farmers markets are out of eggs.
I think the EWG — or the Cornucopia Institute had a map tree showing the so-called smaller healthier companies and who owned them. Typically it was the main big conglomerate ultra Processed Foods company.
You saw how they can generate a chicken breast? One day no more animal enslavement for slaughter, which has been the way since we added meat to our diet. Think about a gorilla diet. Not meat but if hungry may have to eat another living being. ,
Pasture raised free-run eggs are a myth- at least in huge quantities. Local farmers will be able to supply and that’s probably it.
We look at the box in the supermarket and imagine chickens running around on grass and such. But the number of chicken eggs we consume is so big that chicken pastures would have to take so much more room to do that. It just isn’t feasible on the gigantic scale required to feed North America.
As a farm kid, we raised plenty of chickens. I picked eggs every day from about 7 years of age on. Our chickens had a big yard to run around in all day, but we had to get them inside by night. If you let your chickens just run around outside, they will lay eggs in random spots that they choose to nest and you’ll have to go find them. Imagine finding dozens and dozens of eggs outside in a pasture. And that’s doesn’t account for predators.
So how do you do it? You make sure the chickens have to lay them in the laying box. This means the chickens all have to be collected up inside at least a few times a day to lay eggs. Much easier to not have them go outside at all.
In order to supply all of the supermarkets, farms can’t possibly cover entire farm fields with chickens and barns AND STILL charge so little for eggs. The real value of them would have to be more like a buck an egg or more.
Wow Tim this is crazy to know. Yeah imagine Vital Farms manager running miles trying to catch the eggs. No chance. Thanks for the comment again. I have a lot to learn from you. Cheers.
Jack, I am basically replacing Google with ChatGPT right now, and wanted to ask if you think that asking ChatGPT about the legitimacy of certain companies' claims will help me in my research process at all? Maybe I can prompt it to give me specific information, like "Has this company had any controversies surrounding their marketing in the last 5 years?" or something like that.
Great question Tom. Let me ask Chat some questions, and see what it gives me. Maybe then I can give it a prompt. I also recommend going to Ewg.org they have resources to look up a product. https://www.ewg.org/
NOOOOOO!!!! These are my go-to eggs at the grocery store. How disappointing! Another reason I need to find a local farmer/homesteader and give up on grocery chains 😖😖😖

Wow! I’m still shocked.
Hey Karen, I am too. Thanks for the comment. The egg resources I put in the article are great. I use Frankie's eggs almost daily. Hope this helps!
Thank you. I’ll check it out. It is Cornucopia. Great resource. I thought I could add an image in a reply but I couldn’t.
